Creating your Warm Storage account

For the Stellar Testnet Extension to accept deposits it requires the Public Key of a funded Warm Storage account on the Stellar Test Network. This account should not be the same one used for your Hot Wallet.

The Stellar Foundation provides an easy-to-use tool called the Keypair generator where you can create an account by generating a keypair (a Public Key and a Secret Key). To create your account follow these steps:

  1. Scroll to the “Keypair generator” section and click the Generate keypair button.

  2. A Public Key and a Secret Key should be generated. You’ll need to fund the account using the Public Key.

  3. It is important to safely write down your Public and Secret Keys and store them securely. Although not necessary for testnet, it’s a good idea to review our recommendations of best practices for storing Secret Keys securely on livenet.

Funding your Warm Storage account

The Stellar Foundation provides an easy-to-use tool called the Stellar Friendbot for funding new Stellar Testnet accounts. To fund your account follow these steps:

  1. Scroll down to the “Friendbot: Fund a test network account” section.

  2. Input your Warm Storage account’s Public Key and click “Get testnet lumens”

Your account should now be funded!
